It provides a unique opportunity for deserving students from low-income homes to escape the cycle of poverty through education. The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is the local administrator of the program. We offer our students college scholarships, caring volunteer mentors and hope for a better life.\u00a0 When these students are accepted into our program, they sign a contract to maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA; stay crime and drug free; and meet with their mentor regularly.\u00a0 When they graduate from high school, having kept this commitment, they are guaranteed a four-year tuition scholarship to college.<\/p>\n<p>Over 300 applications were received this year.\u00a0 They were reviewed by our Take Stock in Children Selection Committee and ranked based upon several criteria.\u00a0 Although we would like to accept every deserving student, we are pleased to have the ability to induct 46 students to the program this year.\u00a0 The value of these scholarships is over $782,000.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Students and their parents were introduced to their mentors at a luncheon held at Harborside Event Center today.\u00a0 Dr. Nancy Graham, Superintendent of The School District of Lee County gave the keynote address.\u00a0 Marshall T.
