It&#8217;s one the most popular light bulbs on the market, but starting January 1, by law, production will end on 60- and 40-watt incandescent light bulbs.<\/p>\n<p>This all started back in 2007 when then-President George W. Bush signed the Energy Independence and Security Act.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a law that led the government to slowly start phasing out the higher wattage bulbs &#8212; eventually eliminating them completely.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In 2012 the 100-watt light bulbs went away, stopped making those January 1, 2012, then in 2013 they stopped making the 75-watt bulbs,&#8221; said Lowe&#8217;s Store Manager Ron Wotring,<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Now in 2014, the production will cease for 60- and 40-watt bulbs.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s not all incandescent bulbs that are going away, the experts at Lowe&#8217;s say if specialty bulbs are your preference you&#8217;re safe from a transition for now.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll also be able to buy whatever bulbs stores have left after the first of the year.<\/p>\n<p>But some already have glowing reviews about the alternatives that will keep them from stocking up.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s still perfectly legal to own and buy incandescent light bulbs, compact fluorescent aren&#8217;t going anywhere either &#8212; those are the spiral looking bulbs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Consumer Alert.
