It was a classic battle of youth versus experience in the 25-lap Pro Trucks feature race Saturday night at the Full Throttle Speedway.<\/p>\n
Teen driver Chad Chastain of Alva withstood a strong challenge from veteran racer Brent Huber of Venice. For several laps of neck-and-neck racing the two drivers were closer than a pair of Siamese twins.<\/p>\n
Chastain withstood the challenge and denied Huber his fifth consecutive win at the Manatee County track.<\/p>\n
“It was fun racing side-by-side,” Chastain said.<\/p>\n
Huber was gracious about his narrow loss to the young racer. He treated the loss like an opportunity to begin a new winning streak.<\/p>\n
“It was bound to happen and there was a lot of pressure (on me),” Huber said. “I tried to make a run on the outside.”<\/p>\n
In the prerace qualifications, David Wilson of Sarasota turned in the fastest time of 14.390 seconds to circle the 3\/8th-mile track. Wilson followed that up with a win in the longest race of the night, the 75-lap Super Late Models feature race sponsored by Turner Tree and Landscaping.<\/p>\n
Jesse Dutilly of Bradenton took an early lead in that race and held onto it until a broken track bar forced him to leave the race on lap 38.<\/p>\n
That brought out the red flag. When racing resumed, Wilson took the lead on lap 49 and maintained it. Joe Boyd of Riverview was second and Daryl Shelnut of Lake City placed third.<\/p>\n
In other feature races, Zach Rogers of Clearwater bested two members of the Best family — Sherry (second place) and Jimmy (third) in the 15-lap Rookie 4 competition.<\/p>\n
William Rohrer of Myakka took the checkered flag in the 25-lap Modified Minis feature. Rohrer edged out second-place finisher Dean Butrum of Venice and third-place finisher Jimmie Wood of Bradenton.<\/p>\n
The yellow flag came out four times in the 35-lap Legends feature race. Michael Torres of Apopka took the lead on a lap 5 restart and held on to it. Joey Azzata of Boca Raton and Camerson McGee of Weeki Wachee were the second- and third- place finishers.<\/p>\n
In the 25-lap Road Warriors feature, Jason Miller of Lehigh Acres was enjoying about a 5-car length lead when a flat tire on Logan Leonard’s vehicle halted the action. The race was stopped again when Rick Hess of Port Charlotte dropped out due to a broken ball joint. After the safety crew cleared the track, Richard Nelson of Port Charlotte took over the lead and then kept it. Chris Loney of Naples finished in second place and Miller ended up in third place.<\/p>\n
Randy Johnson won the 25-lap, Pro 4 feature race by outracing Ronald Robinson of Bradenton and third place finisher, Jessica Ostrovskis.<\/p>\n
Alex Teston of Lehigh took the lead from Jessica Ostrovskis on Lap 4 and led for some of the widest 10 laps, barely missing the outside walls at times.<\/p>\n
The 15-lap Junkyard Dogs feature sponsored by Q Auto & Injury Attorneys, was halted almost as soon as it began. A bottle-necked start lead to a restart and the elimination of three cars from the field. After racing resumed, James Widner of Myakka City topped Dalton Ellis, also of Myakka City. James’ family rival, Josh Widner, came in third.<\/p>\n
A rare cancellation occurred during the Modified Minis heat after Dean Butrum of Venice spun out on turn four. Eric Purcell of St. Cloud didn’t have enough time to drive around him. The accident took out both cars and only left two racers to compete in the heat.<\/p>\n
The track will be closed Saturday but will resume with a full card of racing action Oct. 12.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
