Weber said. \u201cThere is a lot for us to learn from these opening rounds, but I\u2019m very proud of how our guys supported each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Representing the Eagles in Friday&#8217;s singles Round of 16 for the second-consecutive year are senior <strong>Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky.\/Henry Clay HS)<\/strong> and tournament No. 1 seed <strong>Jordi Vives (Barcelona, Spain\/IES Ferran Tallada\/USC)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Earlier Thursday, Tsamas shut out Nubian Jean-Charles of Florida A&amp;M, 6-0, 6-0, in the opening round, and Zach Goldberg of UCF, 7-6, 6-3, in the second round. Vives, who started off the day with a bye, breezed into the Round of 16 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over UCF\u2019s Arjun Watane.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think today was a good day for me, I played good tennis,\u201d Vives said. \u201cAs a team we had really good support for each other. Even though a couple matches didn\u2019t go our way I feel that my teammates learned a lot from today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Junior <strong>Tianyu Bao (Tianjin, China\/Bayshore HS)<\/strong> advanced to the second round after swiftly beating John Nowak of FAU 6-2, 6-2 early Thursday morning. In the Round of 32 Bao put up a hard fight in three sets against UCF\u2019s Chris Barrus, but ultimately fell 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Thursday morning\u2019s Round of 62, the remaining five Eagles showed their opponents a good fight but ultimately fell short.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The team\u2019s lone true freshman, <strong>Adrian Reid (Lima, Peru\/Altair School)<\/strong>, began his collegiate career with a tough matchup against tournament No. 5 seed Grayson Goldin of FSU, who took the contest 6-1, 6-3. Redshirt freshman <strong>Chris Perrigan (Tallahassee, Fla.\/Maclay HS)<\/strong> played a close first set, but came up short in falling to Stetson\u2019s Laurynas Antropikas 7-5, 6-1. The team\u2019s other newcomer, Tulsa transfer <strong>Lucas Vaz (Sao Paulo, Brazil\/Colegio Fleming\/Tulsa)<\/strong>, went three sets with Reece Acree of UCF, but couldn\u2019t clinch the match, falling 6-1, 4-6, 6-0.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Senior <strong>Lance Lvovsky (Dania, Fla.\/Broward Virtual School\/Jacksonville)<\/strong> and <strong>Gabriel Echeverry (Popayan, Colombia\/Gimnasio Calibio)<\/strong> battled hard in their first-round matches but came up short. Lvovsky fought hard but was outplayed by Florida A&amp;M\u2019s Admire Mushonga, who advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 win, while Echeverry faced UNF\u2019s Yannick Zurn, who claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In doubles play, the eighth-seeded pair of Vives and Vaz took to the court for the first time together, effortlessly beating UCF\u2019s Chris Barrus and Reece Acree, 8-3, to secure a spot in tomorrow\u2019s Round of 16. Joining the two Vs in tomorrow\u2019s action are Echeverry and Reid, who will face Stetson\u2019s Hans Adrian Risend and Nathan Debut.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJordi and Lucas played some great doubles against a very solid team today,\u201d Weber added. \u201cGabe and Adrian had a walkover in the firstround, so I know they are anticipating a very intense first match together tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Coming up short in doubles play were Perrigan and Bao, who fell to Stetson\u2019s Chester Espie and Simon Julin, 8-5, and Tsamas and Lvovsky who played a great match but fell 8-6 to Inaki Espindola and Riaan Du Toit from UCF.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Friday\u2019s Round of 16 singles draw, teammates Vives and Tsamas will face off for a spot in the quarterfinals.
