Documents:<\/strong>\u00a0Federal Charges PDF<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0Plea Agreement PDF<\/a><\/p>\n Lee County Commissioner Tammy Hall has announced her resignation from the Board of County Commissioners effective Tuesday. She had earlier announced that she would not be seeking re-election.<\/p>\n Chairman Cecil Pendergrass will notify Gov. Rick Scott\u2019s office and ask him to appoint someone to fill the seat until the general election in November, 2014.<\/p>\n Tammy Hall is facing federal charges for siphoning money from her campaign account to pay her personal credit card bills and mortgage.<\/p>\n Investigators say Hall used $33,756 from her political contributors between November 2009 and November 2010 on personal expenses not related to the campaign.<\/p>\n Prosecutors say she transferred the money electronically from the campaign account to her personal account, then used the funds to pay her Bank of America mortgage, and American Express bills for purchases at Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Mark Loren Designs and Club Monaco.<\/p>\n Hall faces one count of Wire Fraud, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, three years\u2019 probation and a $250,000 fine.<\/p>\n Investigators say Hall “defrauded and intended to defraud” her contributors by using the money for personal expenses that were in no way related to the campaign.<\/p>\n They say she misrepresented the purpose of the expenses on her quarterly campaign fund report with the Florida Department of State, as well as failed to disclose some contribution checks from donors.<\/p>\n Hall faces one count of Wire Fraud, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, three years supervised release and a $250,000 fine.<\/p>\n The wire fraud charge is applicable because Hall transferred the funds electronically, with authentication servers located in either North Carolina or Alabama that handled her signing into her Wachovia accounts.<\/p>\n While the charging documents were just filed Monday morning, Hall has already entered into a plea agreement. She signed those documents on September 16th.<\/p>\n The court has not yet accepted the plea agreement.
