Myers 33966\u00a0\u00a0239-288-6209<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\u00a0 \u00a0YOU<\/p>\n<p>Destiny Diaper Bank provides infant diapers and incontinent supplies to our most fragile and vulnerable populations in SWFL.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cHelp Keep A Mom In School\u201d<\/p>\n<p>School has opened and we held our Student Mom Night Out event September 6 at Destiny Center.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Over 72 student moms from all over Lee County came to enjoy a night created just for them.\u00a0\u00a0This was our 4th. Student Mom Night Out this year, providing educational information from such schools as Keiser, Edison, FMIT, the L.E. E. program through Human Resources, Sunstate Beauty School, Regency Beauty School, and SWFL College, spending one on one time encouraging and enticing our local student moms to graduate and reach for a higher\u00a0\u00a0opportunity thorough education, thus focusing on a successful future and also lowering additional pregnancies.\u00a0\u00a0We also invited several direct sales companies such as Mary Kay, Tupperware, Party Lite, 31 bags, Avon, Oragami, and Tastefully Simple to provide information about starting a successful business of their own.\u00a0\u00a0At each of our Student Mom Night Out events we provide guest professionals such as A.C.T., Lee County Sheriff resource officers, Judy Sylvia from The Growth Coach, and Cheryl Admire with Edward Jones, to speak to our student moms about their future for success through education.\u00a0\u00a0We begin our night with dinner.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0We want to thank Keiser University for providing our September dinner.\u00a0\u00a0Everyone enjoyed the trays filled with chicken, vegetables, fruit, devilled eggs, ham, cheese, meats, and salad.\u00a0\u00a0Pie was provided by Lynn Anklam from Tastefully Simple.\u00a0\u00a0At each meeting student moms are given a package of diapers, wipes, clothing vouchers, and choices of other needed baby items such as bottles, wipe warmers, blankets, and baby gear. We have been giving them bags of groceries also but lost our resource of food when Wake Up America closed, so we are looking for new resources for food.\u00a0\u00a0On our Student Mom Night Out, we also have workshops scheduled for the grandmothers so that they will have an opportunity to talk about their experiences as a new grandmother and how they can be supportive of their daughters in school.<\/p>\n<p>At this time, we are forming our student mom advisory board from the many applicants representing several schools and age ranges.\u00a0\u00a0These moms will become the voice of our student moms raising the bar of excellence in our community.<\/p>\n<p>For the past year we have registered 357 student moms that we help each month with diapers, wipes, baby food, formula, and other needed baby items.\u00a0\u00a0Over 96% of the moms that we help are single moms and many of them are living in very poor conditions trying to juggle life as a mom and life as a student.\u00a0\u00a0The age range is between 14 and 38.\u00a0\u00a0While supplying them with diapers and needed supplies for their babies, we also try to supply them with personal items such as shampoo, conditioner, makeup, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and feminine hygiene products.\u00a0\u00a0In our last survey, most of the moms rely on Destiny Diaper Bank for diapers.\u00a0\u00a0Such resources as Food Stamps, W.I.C., Medicaid, or Medicare do now provide money for diapers and a student mom needing to leave her baby or babies in childcare are required to provide disposable diapers.\u00a0\u00a0Her cost is close to $100.00 a month for each baby in need of diapers.\u00a0\u00a0Destiny Diaper Bank believes that by focusing on our student moms and helping them with needed baby products, the moms can focus on their future for success through education, thus changing their lives, the lives of their children, and become a successful citizen in our community.\u00a0\u00a0We believe that we can change a generation one diaper at a time.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cSpecial Needs &amp; Medically Challenged Infants\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Destiny Diaper Bank also assists families with children that are on Medicaid between the ages of 2 years and 4 years of age that are referred to us from health care providers.\u00a0\u00a0Just last week we were given the name of an infant that is in the neo-nick unit at Lee Memorial Health Systems.\u00a0\u00a0Her parents are in need of a lot of baby items for their sick little one.\u00a0\u00a0We will begin with diapers, wipes, and clothing.\u00a0\u00a0When they come in, we will be able to see what other items are needed in their situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cMilitary Families\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since we have a daughter who is married to a man in the Air Force, we are familiar with the financial challenges that can take place in families in the military.\u00a0\u00a0We support these families once a month with diapers.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cFirst Response Officers\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Destiny Diaper Bank made a decision to assist all local first response officers such as Sheriff, Police, Fire &amp; Rescue officers and their families.\u00a0\u00a0I cannot tell you how honored we are to give them the little support that we have in providing diapers to these men and women who lay their lives down for us.\u00a0\u00a0The other day we passed a terrible accident with two large trucks entangled in a mess.\u00a0\u00a0We sat in traffic watching Lee County sheriffs, police, fire, and rescue all working together to rescue the people in this terrible accident.\u00a0\u00a0I was humbled to think that we were able to make a small difference and give back.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Veterans<\/p>\n<p>Our veterans who have served their country and in need of incontinent supplies can come to Destiny Diaper Bank for their supplies.\u00a0\u00a0Last week, Ben ( who is a regular) has a lot of challenges with medications and sometimes he needs to come more than once a month.\u00a0\u00a0He has to rely on friends and family to pick up for him, but they do not complain.\u00a0\u00a0We are always happy to see him, wishing that we could help him with more than just the diapers, wipes, underpads, and gloves.\u00a0\u00a0He also needs colostomy bags and size L in disposable gloves which we are out of at this time.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Adults &amp; Elderly<\/p>\n<p>Our adults and elderly are our most fragile and vulnerable populations that we serve.\u00a0\u00a0The cost for incontinent supplies can run as high as $300.00 a month and on a fixed income they at times have to dump out the soiled contents and replace the wet diaper back on now challenging themselves with possible infections and illnesses.\u00a0\u00a0The most requests is for pull-ups in all sizes. We mostly need sizes L &amp; XL.<\/p>\n<p>Destiny Diaper Bank is a 501 c 3 non profit charity that has given more than 1 million diapers out into our community.\u00a0\u00a0At times we have given up to 3,000 diapers out in one day.\u00a0\u00a0We have been in operation since 2007 and believe that we have a strong focus in working with families in our community to change lives and promote well being.\u00a0\u00a0Since we are not supported by Government or State funding, we rely on our community for financial help.\u00a0\u00a0Our need for diapers and funding has grown due to more people learning about our assistance to them.<\/p>\n<p>We are receiving calls from schools in other counties asking for our help.\u00a0\u00a0We can do this, but we need financial help.\u00a0\u00a0Some of the families are driving quite a distance to get our help.
