The sophomore \u2013 who is currently in her senior year academically \u2013 capped her invitational with a low round of 76 (+4), which tied for the best round by an Eagle all weekend.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Mercer won the four-team tournament with a three-day total of 898 (293-302-303), while Seminole State finished second with a 935 (317-307-311). FGCU tied its second-round total (308) to cap the tournament just two shots behind Seminole State as it posted a 937 (321-308-308). USC Upstate, the third Atlantic Sun Conference member in the field, finished fourth following rounds of 322-321-313 (956).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCollectively, I thought we left some shots out there,\u201d head coach <strong>Sarah Trew<\/strong> said. \u201cWe need to shake the nerves and cobwebs off and settle into our game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich.\/Traverse City Central HS) <\/strong>finished 8th overall after posting a final-round 78 (78-76-78, 232) to close as the low FGCU member. <strong>Georgia Price (Bude, England\/Fort Myers HS) <\/strong>was tied for 9th at the end of the three-day invitational, shooting a final-round 77 (80-76-77, 233). <strong>Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla.\/Citrus HS) <\/strong>capped the tournament in sole possession of 11th place with a 77, concluding her tournament by taking a shot off each round from Friday through Sunday (79-78-77, 234).<\/p>\n<p>Detlefsen \u2013 who started with an 84 on Friday, shot a 78 on Saturday and closed with a 76 on Sunday \u2013 finished inside the top-15 in a tie for 14th. <strong>Rebecca Van Etten (Trinity, Fla.\/J.W. Mitchell HS) <\/strong>closed the FGCU scoring with a final-round 82, matching her Saturday total (91-82-82, 255). Playing as an individual, <strong>Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla.\/J.W. Mitchell HS) <\/strong>shot a final-round 86 to cap a three-day showing of 252 (82-84-86).<\/p>\n<p>For the third-straight day, the par-4, 384-yard 18th was one of the two most difficult holes, playing at a 4.96 clip in round three. While the par-4, 385-yard 9th didn\u2019t statistically play as the most difficult hole, it was the only hole on the course that did not yield a birdie over the course of three rounds.<\/p>\n<p>FGCU returns to action next weekend in its lone home event at the Eagle Invitational, played at Worthington Country Club. The 36-hole tournament is set for Sunday, Sept. 15, and Monday, Sept. 16, at the course in Bonita Springs, just minutes south of the FGCU campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis week we are going to play a lot and focus on getting the ball in the hole,\u201d Trew concluded. \u201cOur home event this weekend should be a good confidence boost for us since we are playing at a familiar course.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The FGCU women\u2019s golf team concluded its season-opening tournament with a third-place finish at the Mercer University EAT A PEACH Collegiate on Sunday.
