{"id":26000,"date":"2013-09-05T17:38:01","date_gmt":"2013-09-05T21:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=26000"},"modified":"2013-09-05T17:38:01","modified_gmt":"2013-09-05T21:38:01","slug":"a-call-to-duty-you-will-want-to-miss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2013\/09\/a-call-to-duty-you-will-want-to-miss\/","title":{"rendered":"A Call to Duty You Will Want to Miss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-26001\" title=\"fraud-alert-image\" src=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/fraud-alert-image-300x200.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/fraud-alert-image-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/fraud-alert-image.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office Fraud Line has received reports this week of unscrupulous individuals posing as representatives from the U.S. District Court attempting to obtain personal information and cash from residents in\u00a0a scam known as the &#8220;Jury Duty&#8221; scam.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Here&#8217;s how the scheme works:<\/p>\n<p>Your phone rings and the con-artist claims to be a court official and states you did not respond to a jury summons, which has now resulted in a warrant for your arrest.\u00a0 When you advise the caller you never received a summons to appear before the court, he quickly\u00a0says he will &#8220;cancel the warrant&#8221; once you verify your personal information and agree to pay a small fine.\u00a0\u00a0At this point, the caller\u00a0will give instructions on how to \u201cwire transfer\u201d your payment, while calmly asking for sensitive information such as your social security number, date of birth, address and bank account numbers.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->If you receive such a call, do\u00a0NOT give out any information and immediately hang up the phone.
