A much anticipated dog park in Lehigh Acres is two months behind schedule, but the wait may soon be over. Paw’s Duty dog park is part of a $2-million project at Veteran’s Park.<\/p>\n
The last phase of renovations at Veteran’s Park was supposed to finish this summer, but there were a few setbacks.<\/p>\n
“We were waiting on some final water testing and permanent water to get put in,” explained Debbie Derums who is the East District Manager for Lee County Parks and Rec. “With any project you can expect to get some delays.”<\/p>\n
Water is flowing to the park and dog area; it’s drinkable for both pups and people. But there are a few things left to do before guests are welcome, including getting the project managers approval and cleaning up the park.<\/p>\n
The park is three acres and has a side for big dogs and little dogs. Both areas have spots sprinkled with sunshine and shade for those who prefer it.<\/p>\n
“It’s not just about the dogs having a good time,” said Derums. “It’s about the owners meeting other owners and socializing.”<\/p>\n
If you are worried about mud, the park has paved a path for owners but the dogs can get as dirty as they want\u2014the park has a bathing section for dogs on the way out.<\/p>\n
However, dogs and their owners will have to wait to enjoy the new amenities. The park is set to open in two weeks.<\/p>\n
