The challenge rewards the best overall traffic safety program in the State of Florida. To take part in the challenge, departments submit an application that documents their agency\u2019s efforts and effectiveness in areas such as speeding, impaired driving, among others. This year, the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office Traffic Unit received 1st and 2nd Place Honors and the Motor Unit placed 12th overall.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The School Safety Advocacy Council is also held annually and took place this year fromJuly 22-26\u00a0in Las Vegas, NV. The School Safety Advocacy Council (SSAC) was established as a collaborative partnership between education, law enforcement and emergency first responders. The council\u2019s primary focus remains the conducting of school safety assessments, school safety drills and exercises, as well as the delivery of training to school personnel and law enforcement. The SSAC Staff and Advisory Board is made up of nationally recognized law enforcement executives, school administration and school safety professionals. Representatives at the conference were from 46 states, Canada and the Netherlands. This year, the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office School Resource Unit received the Exemplary School Safety Award.
