{"id":24155,"date":"2013-06-12T14:06:46","date_gmt":"2013-06-12T18:06:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=24155"},"modified":"2013-06-12T14:06:46","modified_gmt":"2013-06-12T18:06:46","slug":"extreme-mailbox-makeover-winner-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2013\/06\/extreme-mailbox-makeover-winner-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"Extreme Mailbox <br>Makeover Winner Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-24156\" title=\"mailbox\" src=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/mailbox.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"101\" height=\"121\" \/>James Shelak of Cape Coral has been named as the winner in the U.S. Postal Service\u2019s \u201cExtreme Mailbox Makeover\u201d contest, which was held during May.\u00a0 Shelak, a retired Signal-Construction foreman for Norfolk Southern Railroad, said he \u201cwanted a mailbox different from everybody else but something that reflected back to me\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 Shelak hand built his contest winning battery operated train mailbox.\u00a0 When the mailbox door is opened the lights flash, bells ring and a train whistle blows.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Postal customers had the opportunity to \u201cspiff up\u201d their mailboxes and enter the competition.\u00a0 The winner was selected by the Postal Service\u2019s Consumer Advisory Council based on creativity and compliance with postal regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Shelak will receive two sheets of First-Class mail customized photo postage stamps.\u00a0 In addition, photos of his mailbox will be on display during July at the Page Field Post Office at 2655 N.
