Fletcher Trophy as the men\u2019s all-sports champion cannot be determined until the completion of the baseball regular season this weekend, mathematically the Eagles\u2019 current success is enough to claim the overall all-sports title. A chance remains for ETSU, FGCU or Mercer to claim the Fletcher trophy, as the drama heightens for this weekend\u2019s action.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Regardless of the outcome on the diamond, FGCU is secured of finishing no worse than tied for fifth in the baseball standings, and the next closest school, ETSU, cannot accrue enough points to pass the Eagles.<\/p>\n<p>The Eagles won regular season championships in men\u2019s and women\u2019s soccer, volleyball and women\u2019s basketball. They total 276 out of a possible 366 overall points, for a winning percentage of .754. Their women\u2019s total of 169.5 points is second only to North Florida\u2019s 177 this season, and their 106.5 points in the men\u2019s race have them in second heading into the final weekend of regular season baseball.<\/p>\n<p>FGCU claimed four team titles for the second consecutive season and places it in a tie with North Florida for the most in 2012-13. Only five programs have won four or more titles in a season in the award\u2019s six-year history.<\/p>\n<p>With a pair of championships in women\u2019s tennis and women\u2019s golf, ETSU is second to FGCU with 300 out of a possible 429 points (.699), receiving 139.5 from its men\u2019s teams and 160.5 from the women.<\/p>\n<p>North Florida joins FGCU with the most regular season titles, winning four: men\u2019s tennis, sand volleyball, men\u2019s golf and softball. The Ospreys currently occupy third with 274.5 points out of a possible 444 (.618).<\/p>\n<p>Last year Kennesaw State finished as runner-up to ETSU in the closest race in the award\u2019s history. This year the Owls currently sit in fourth place with a pair of championships in men\u2019s indoor and outdoor track and field. KSU\u2019s current point total is 243 out of a possible 402 (.605). Mercer\u2019s men\u2019s basketball regular season championship helps the Bears to round out the top five with 216 points out of a possible 366 (.590). The Bears are currently in third place in the tightly contested men\u2019s race with 97.5 points out of 144 possible (.677).<\/p>\n<p>For the eighth straight time Jacksonville\u2019s women\u2019s track and field claimed indoor and outdoor titles, and the Dolphins sit in sixth place in the overall race. Their total of 147 points in the women\u2019s race and 51 from the men total 198 points out of a possible 354 (.559).<\/p>\n<p>In seventh place, USC Upstate tallied 214.5 points with a team title in men\u2019s cross country. Stetson received 106.5 points from its women and 60 from the men to total 166.5 out of 366 (.455) and place eighth.<\/p>\n<p>Lipscomb follows the Hatters in ninth with 190.5 points and a team title in women\u2019s cross country, and newcomer Northern Kentucky completes the roster with a total of 150 points out of possible 429 (.350).<\/p>\n<p>FGCU claimed the Sherman Day Trophy as the women\u2019s champion last week. The Eagles\u2019 women\u2019s soccer, volleyball and women\u2019s basketball titles helped them secure the top spot and they finished with 169.5 points out of 222 (.764). They were followed by North Florida (177\/264, .671), ETSU (160.5\/249, .645), Jacksonville (147\/237, .620) and 2012 champion Kennesaw State (148.5\/249) in the top five. Mercer (118.5\/222, .534), cross country champion Lipscomb (120\/249, .482), Stetson (106.5\/222, .480), USC Upstate (106.5\/249, .428) and Northern Kentucky (84\/249, .337) completed the field.<\/p>\n<p>Points for the all-sports standings are awarded on a descending basis in three-point increments and are established according to the number of teams participating in each sport. In team sports, points are awarded based on a school&#8217;s regular season finish. In individual sports, such as cross country, golf, and track and field, points are awarded based on their A-Sun Championship standings.
