{"id":22951,"date":"2013-05-09T08:26:07","date_gmt":"2013-05-09T12:26:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=22951"},"modified":"2013-05-09T08:59:15","modified_gmt":"2013-05-09T12:59:15","slug":"food-drive-stamp-out-hunger-may-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2013\/05\/food-drive-stamp-out-hunger-may-11\/","title":{"rendered":"Food Drive <br>Stamp Out Hunger May 11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-22952\" title=\"stamp out\" src=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/stamp-out.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"202\" height=\"263\" \/><\/span>The need for food is urgent in Lehigh Acres!\u00a0\u00a0Our community is experiencing a continued need for food\u2014and this will increase as summer arrives and students no longer have access to school-related food programs.\u00a0\u00a0The Lehigh Community Services (LCS)needs the Lehigh Acres community to assist in the \u201cStamp Out Hunger\u201d food drive on Saturday, May 11.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cStamp Out Hunger\u201d event is the nation\u2019s largest single-day food drive.\u00a0\u00a0Letter carriers in the two counties will be collecting nonperishable food during their 21st annual drive.\u00a0\u00a0In addition to donated food, help is needed for two aspects of the food collection:\u00a0Drivers are needed to assist letter carriers in picking up the food and volunteers are needed to complete a preliminary sort of the food.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cStamp Out Hunger\u201d is the one day when letter carriers collect non-perishable food that has been left by mailboxes.\u00a0\u00a0Food collected in Lehigh Acres will be distributed by LCS.<\/p>\n<p>To help letter carriers with their pickups on May 11, it will be a huge deal for us at LCS and a very physical activity. The main fun starts about 1:00pm and concludes around 5:30pm. We have lots of kids and adults volunteering and the letter carriers almost \u201ccompete\u201d with each other to see who can bring in the most mail bins full of food.
