<\/a>On Saturday, April 20 community members and organizations are invited to participate in a Great American Cleanup Event at Greenbriar Preserve in Lehigh Acres.<\/p>\nIn celebration of Earth Day, Keep Lee County Beautiful (KLCB), the Lehigh Community Initiative, and East County Water Control District (ECWCD) have joined together to host a Great American Cleanup event at Greebriar Preserve on Saturday, April 20 from 8:30 a.m. \u2013 1:30p.m. Volunteers are asked to meet at Greenbriar Blvd. and Richmond Ave.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an area that sees a high level of illegal dumping, partying, and littering; actions which do effect our environment,\u201d said David E. Lindsay, ECWCD District Manager. \u201cWe are pleased to work with other community organizations to help reduce these negative impacts on our environment.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Great American Clean Up is the nation’s largest organized annual cleanup & beautification event. It encourages citizens to get involved in their own communities. Millions of volunteers nationwide take part in the Great American Cleanup each spring.<\/p>\n
The Greenbriar Preserve\/Swamp is a natural land feature that provides great water quality enhancements and ground water recharge for a significant part of Hickey Creek Basin.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe removal of trash and debris from this will enhance water quality in both surface and groundwater,\u201d said Lindsay.<\/p>\n
ECWCD is dedicated to preserving and protecting water resources in Lehigh Acres.<\/p>\n
The Lehigh Community Initiative is dedicated to beautifying the Lehigh Acres Community. The\u00a0 group of dedicated volunteers work year round to help change the image of Lehigh Acres by removing trash, monitoring code enforcement violations , creating Neighborhood Watch groups, informing residents and assisting with self-sufficiency as well as creating quality programs for the youth in Lehigh Acres.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are thrilled to host a Great American Cleanup event in Lehigh Acres and hope that our community will come out and show its support, said Andrea Adams, Community Policing and Lehigh Acres Community Initiative Coordinator \u201cEvents such as this allow us to build a sense of community pride and help our environment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Clean-up supplies such as bags, grabber sticks and gloves will be provided by Keep Lee County Beautiful for the event.<\/p>\n
