To do so, you can call Danny Stephenson at 239-368-7771.

“He’ll get you plugged in,” Jackson laughed.

As in previous years, the festival will start on a Friday night and run through the following Saturday, some eight days. A final parade is planned on the last Saturday of the week-long festival.

Andy Reisinger is the chairman of this year’s festival and is also serving as he has done for years, chairman of the parade. He’s the one you should get in touch with if you would like to enter the Saturday parade, which is one of the largest parades in Southwest Florida and draws thousands of spectators down Homestead Road.

The festival itself takes place at Veterans Park on Homestead Road. There is a midway with rides and this year members of the Spring Festival committee say you can save money on your carnival tickets by purchasing a sheet of tickets for $10 for 14 tickets of $60 for a wristband that will be good for the entire week-long event.

Jackson said this offer is only good before the festival begins. You can contact Cheryl Dutka at 239-357-6987 or Joe Maden at 239-590-5914 to purchase your tickets.

“When you bring the kids to the festival, they love to ride over and over on some of the amusements, so this is a good bargain,” Jackson said.

As in the past, there will be the ever-popular Spring Festival Idol contest.

Vicki Culver, Spring Festival Idol coordinator, says auditions for the festival contests will take place at Majestic Country Club at 6 p.m. on March 5 and 6. Applications can be downloaded from the Spring Festival website at: www.lehighspringfestival.com or can be picked up at Culver’s business, Home for All the Holidays at 3 Homestead Rd. in Lehigh.

Culver said applications must be received no later than March 3.

There are many events, sponsored by local businesses at the festival throughout the week. Admission is free to the festival, but there is a very small donation fee to park your car on the grounds of the festival.

There are cooking contests, and each year, the chili contest seems to draw the most entrants. There are contests for collectors and or those with the best plant, etc. There is also a pet contest during the week. The events will be listed later.

Some of the information is on the website.

One of the funniest and most original contests, which goes all the way back to the time the festival began is the annual bubble blowing contest.

Usually Vicki Culver oversees the contests which draws children to the stage and are asked to chew bubble gum for several minutes before Culver asks them to blow a bubble.

If it is a windy day, sometimes the bubbles burst and other times the bubble may burst on the child’s face, but if it was the largest bubble, that child is a winner.

Country music star JT Hodges, who is a semi-finalist for the New Artist of the Year award with the Academy of Country Music, will be in Lehigh Acres as the…

[75
