One of those key moments happen at the Lehigh Acres event when Kevin Gourley took a photograph of Elaine Little and her granddaughter.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Little is starting treatment next week for cancer. And these is what Relay for Life is all about.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Survivors Lap<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the Survivors Lap, all cancer survivors at the event take the first lap around the track, celebrating their victory over cancer while cheered on by the other participants who line the track. Relay For Life events also recognize and celebrate caregivers, who give time, love, and support to their friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers facing cancer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luminaria Ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Luminaria Ceremony takes place after dark, so we can remember people we have lost to cancer, honor people who have fought cancer in the past, and support those whose fight continues. Candles are lit inside of personalized bags and are placed around the Relay track as glowing tributes to those who\u2019ve been affected by cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Funds raised during these event help pay for the local Hope Lodge, Road to Recovery Program, Look Good\u2026Feel Better Program and Reach to Recovery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The just the pure fun you are during something for the right reasons:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/relay-photos-by-kevin-gourley\/\">Photos of the event by Kevin Gourley<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/relay-photos-by-robert-anderson\/\">Photos of the event by Robert Anderson<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What Makes a Relay Event Special?
