The\u00a0Certified Zero High Reliability Award\u00a0was created to acknowledge a hospital or hospital unit\u2019s efforts to develop a culture of safety and quality care that is the responsibility of all staff members.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are honored to be the first hospital to receive this recognition and are fortunate enough to work in an environment that supports openness and teamwork.\u00a0 It enables us to learn and respond to developments and to make improvements system wide,\u201d explains Scott Kashman, Chief Administrative Officer of Cape Coral Hospital.\u00a0 \u201cBy speaking out we prevent the potential for errors and oversight.\u00a0 It demonstrates our commitment to our patients and their safety and reminds us that each and every one of us can make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lee Memorial Health System\u2019s number one core value is safety, as such it has integrated safety into its culture and encourages sharing and learning without fear of liability in order to improve patient care and prevent harm.\u00a0 Acknowledging the benefits of open communication helps create shared responsibility in preventing safety issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was, at one time, acceptable in the healthcare community that safety events or infections would occur. We have refused to accept this notion.
