To that end, effective January 15, 2013, Sheriff Mike Scott and Superintendent Dr. Joseph Burke have committed to increase security through the provision of ten dedicated deputies to be placed in rotation at District elementary schools.<\/p>\n<p>Both Sheriff Scott and Dr. Burke agree that an increase in security at the elementary level is of paramount importance.\u00a0 The ten deputies that will assume these roles are highly trained and seasoned law enforcement officers.\u00a0 Each deputy has considerable experience in dealing with school-based procedures and staff, as well as the effective management of all types of emergency and crisis situations.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The increase in security will not affect the budget of either organization for this fiscal year.\u00a0 The dedicated partnership between the District and the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office continues to ensure that our schools remain safe and secure learning environments for students and staff.\u00a0 Sheriff Scott and his staff have made a clear and compelling commitment to the safety of students in Lee County.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The safety\/security of students and staff has been the top priority for the School District of Lee County and the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office.
