The first application period is mandatory for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current student of Lee County Public Schools attending Pre-K, 5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0or 8<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0grades;<\/li>\n<li>Kindergarten and New students to the District.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, students currently enrolled in a school may participate if they want to change schools next year.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, January 11<sup>th<\/sup>, 2013 pre-printed applications will be sent to parents of Pre-K students attending Lee County Public Schools who are eligible for kindergarten for 2013\/14, as well as current fifth- and eighth-grade students who currently attend a Lee County Public School.<\/p>\n<p>Parents of children who will be five on or before September 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0should apply for kindergarten for the 2013\/14 school year. Parents need to register their child even if they have an older child already in school &#8211; there are<strong>NO<\/strong>\u00a0automatic assignments.<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to a popular misconception, the system is based on a lottery,\u00a0<strong>NOT<\/strong>\u00a0first come, first served. That means a family who registers the first day of Batch 1 has the same chance of getting a school as that of a family who registers on the last day of Batch 1 &#8211; given they have the same enrollment requirements. There is <strong>NO NEED<\/strong>\u00a0for families to stand in long lines when Batch 1 starts.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, if families received a pre-printed application, they are strongly encouraged to apply online via the Districts\u2019 Web site (<a href=\"http:\/\/studentassignment.leeschools.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/studentassignment.leeschools.net<\/a>). This option is not available to new students to the District or students who attended a Lee County public school, left the District and are now returning to our county.<\/p>\n<p>Parents and students may also visit schools during open house.
