There are of course public displays planned for New Years Eve that many will attend. There is a huge concern for the safety of the backyard enthusiast who has had a few beers and then goes out on the deck or elsewhere to torch off what is left over from the after the fourth of July firework sales. \u00a0We don&#8217;t need to start out 2013 with a trip to the emergency room. \u00a0See the tips below from the National Council on Fireworks Safety.<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Know your fireworks; Read the warning labels and performance descriptions before igniting.<\/li>\n<li>Have a designated shooter to organize and shoot your family show.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Save your alcohol for after the show.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Parents and caretakers should always closely supervise teens if they are using fireworks.<\/li>\n<li>Parents should not allow young children to handle or use fireworks.<\/li>\n<li>Fireworks should only be used outdoors.<\/li>\n<li>Always have water ready if you are shooting fireworks.<\/li>\n<li>Obey local laws. If fireworks are not legal where you live, do not use them.<\/li>\n<li>Wear safety glasses whenever using fireworks.<\/li>\n<li>Never relight a &#8220;dud&#8221; firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.<\/li>\n<li>Soak spent fireworks with water before placing them in an outdoor garbage can.<\/li>\n<li>Never attempt to alter or modify consumer fireworks and use them only in the manner in which they were intended.<\/li>\n<li>Report illegal explosives, like M-80s and quarter sticks, to the fire or law enforcement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is that time of the year when people drag out their fireworks and start launching them into the air in celebration of the New Year.
