At 94 years of age he had been dealing with various serious health issues for quite some time, and that fateful Friday morning he lost his balance and fell backwards into the corner of his dresser, suffering multiple rib fractures..<\/p>\n<p>Robert was born June 25, 1918 in Dover, Ohio, to Charles F. and Caroline Barbara (Kratz) Krebs. He had one older brother, Homer, and an older half brother, Walter. Robert married Iva Elizabeth Hamblin on April 12, 1941 and they were together for more than 68 years until Mom&#8217;s passing in January.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Robert retired from the United States Army as Chief Warrant Officer W-4 after serving more than 27 years (August 1937 to March 1965.) His &#8220;Lifer&#8221; career\u00a0goal of 30 years was cut short at the end because he declined an assignment to Korea, where he could not take his family. His military career included serving in positions Military Personnel Officer, Civilian Personnel Officer, Supervisor of Chief Promotions and Appointments Unit, Top Secret Control Officer (receiving and delivering top secret material and diplomatic pouches), Courier Officer, and Recruiting and Induction Officer.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout his military career, he served in various duty stations including Fort Knox Kentucky, Korea, Tokyo Japan, Marysville California, Heidelburg Germany, San Antonio Texas, Nurnberg Germany and Fort Campbell Kentucky.<\/p>\n<p>After retiring from the Army, Robert moved his family to Lehigh Acres. Not content to permanently retire, he took a job as Staff Accountant at Lehigh Acres General Hospital and worked there for 11 years supervising the performance of all duties related to the hospital&#8217;s Accounting Department including preparation of the monthly financial statements. He retired from the hospital in 1976.<\/p>\n<p>Robert was pre-deceased by his wife: Iva, his oldest daughter: Carolyn Krebs Kilpatrick, his first grandson: Billy Neil Kilpatrick, and his brother: Homer Krebs. Our family takes great comfort in knowing these dear hearts are together once again and waiting for the rest of us on just the other side.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by three daughters, Barbara Mitchell (Johnny), Margaret Elyard (Joe), and Roberta Jerz (Dan). Six grandchildren: Stacey Mitchell Roesch, Barbara (Buffy) Mitchell Miller, Valerie Kilpatrick Lindsey, Aarron Elyard, James Elyard, and Robert Raybuck. Six great-grandchildren: Emily and Nicholas Roesch, Bryan (BJ) and Bradley Miller, Cody Lindsey, and Willow Rose Raybuck.<\/p>\n<p>Mom and Dad had moved to Beacon Square (an Older Adult Community) in Lehigh Acres and they enjoyed many happy years there together. After Mom passed away and Dad was alone, we talked him into moving to Fountain Crest Retirement Center (Independent Living) also in Lehigh. He made many new friends there and even met up with some former neighbors from Beacon Square who had moved like he had. Dad absolutely loved living in Fountain Crest and enjoyed telling others about how nice it was.<\/p>\n<p>Dad was a faithful member of Buckingham Presbyterian Church and so loved attending the services with our family\u00a0(he always sat in the same seat, left front, third row, aisle seat).\u00a0 He also loved the fellowship dinners.\u00a0\u00a0 Therefore, the family asks in lieu of flowers, any contributions in his memory please be made to Buckingham Presbyterian Church, 4241 Buckingham Rd., Ft. Myers, FL 33905.<\/p>\n<p>Services are scheduled for Friday, Dec 28,\u00a0at Hodges Funeral Home (formerly Lee Memorial Park), 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913.\u00a0Viewing will be from 10-11 with service immediately following.
