{"id":16201,"date":"2012-11-26T00:18:03","date_gmt":"2012-11-26T06:18:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=16201"},"modified":"2012-11-29T11:21:52","modified_gmt":"2012-11-29T17:21:52","slug":"families-receive-needed-thanksgiving-baskets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2012\/11\/families-receive-needed-thanksgiving-baskets\/","title":{"rendered":"Families Receive Needed Thanksgiving Baskets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/families-receive-needed-thanksgiving-baskets\/roastturkey\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16202\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-16202\" title=\"RoastTurkey\" src=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/RoastTurkey-300x275.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/RoastTurkey-300x275.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/RoastTurkey.jpg 387w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Over 300 families were given turkeys and all the trimmings for a Thanksgiving dinner last week by Lehigh Community Services.<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte Ray Nicely, executive director of LCS, She said some 300 turkeys and more than 100 chickens were given away.<\/p>\n<p>Those who received the Thanksgiving food applied a few weeks ago and if they were eligible for the giveaway, they were told to come last Tuesday to get their food.<\/p>\n<p>Nicely, who operates Lehigh Community Services, said there were several other places in Lehigh who were also giving away Thanksgiving baskets and that all the organizations work together to make sure nobody tries to get free food from more than one place.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Other organizations in Lehigh that gave away Thanksgiving baskets included St. Raphael&#8217;s Church, New Life Assembly of God, Lehigh Christian Church, new Beginnings, Mirror Lake Elementary School, Lehigh Acres Elementary School and Nation&#8217;s Association in fort Myers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Kiwanis Club of Lehigh Acres always gives turkeys to needy families through the school system,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Lehigh Community Services is now preparing for their Christmas gift toy giveaway for area families that will not be able to provide toys to their children.<\/p>\n<p>According to Nicely, Families have to sign up to become eligible so we have enough toys to go around. Registration for families to receive toys runs from Nov. 26 to Dec. 7.
