{"id":14337,"date":"2012-10-18T21:40:40","date_gmt":"2012-10-19T02:40:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=14337"},"modified":"2012-10-18T21:40:40","modified_gmt":"2012-10-19T02:40:40","slug":"i-need-you-now-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2012\/10\/i-need-you-now-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cI NEED YOU NOW\u2026\u201d Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do you know when your child <strong>needs you MOST<\/strong>?\u00a0 We discussed in the last article that our children seemingly need us most when their diapers need changing, they need your hand to steady those first steps, their training wheels need tightening, they had a bad dream and they \u201cNeed You Now!\u201d\u00a0 Let\u2019s examine what happens as our children get older.\u00a0 Do they need us less or more?<\/p>\n<p>We assume in our society that as we get older we need less support, when actually it is the opposite.\u00a0 Think about it, your aging parents need your support, when they didn\u2019t before.\u00a0 In the same way, teens need their support system more than any other time in their life.\u00a0 Teens need to know they are on the right track, headed in the right direction, ready for the real world, and the rest of their life.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>When I started as a the classroom as a teacher, I spent the first year as a substitute and signed up for all grade levels and all types of schools.\u00a0 I quickly found out what I was not cut out to do.\u00a0 After the first few hours of \u201cMiss, Miss, Miss, he looked at me funny\u201d, \u201cI raised my hand first and you didn\u2019t call on me\u201d followed by a flurry of tears, and a guaranteed call from a \u201cconcerned\u201d mom, I realized they needed me a little too much. \u00a0Parents were clamoring to bring the biggest cupcakes and goody bags for their child\u2019s birthday. \u00a0\u00a0Every child brought cards and gifts for the teacher on holidays and the PTA was standing room only.<\/p>\n<p>I decided to try middle school; they would surely be very appreciative of my years of experience in the business world.\u00a0 They were actually more impressed that I owned one item of clothing that was \u201ccool\u201d.\u00a0 PTA meetings were still quite lively and competitive; you had to know someone who knew someone to become an officer.\u00a0 The teacher who taught the PTA president\u2019s child knew they would never have to fund raise for classroom supplies. Much to the chagrin of their independent \u201ctweens\u201d, there was a waiting list of parent chaperones for the dance.<\/p>\n<p>When I did my time as a high school substitute, I realized I was at home.\u00a0 This was my niche, they were old enough to get my jokes and I could prepare them for the \u201creal world\u201d challenges that were nipping at their heels.\u00a0 But\u2026something happened to the parents, they disappeared.\u00a0 Some parents tell me, I have done my part in raising my child, now they are on their own, besides they tell me all the time, \u201cI got this\u201d, so I leave them alone.<\/p>\n<p>I asked my high school students, whether they felt they needed their parents in their lives more or less when they got to high school.
