Mitchell \u2013 United States Postal Service<\/strong><\/em><em><br \/>\n<\/em><em><strong>Special to the Lehigh Acres \u00a0Gazette<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Postal Service is honoring one of the most prolific authors of the early 20th century, and inventor of the iconic character, Tarzan, by issuing the Edgar Rice Burroughs Forever Stamp.\u00a0 The stamp\u2019s First Day of Issue coincided with the 100th anniversary of the publication of Burroughs\u2019 first story, \u201cUnder the Moons of Mars,\u201d and his first Tarzan story, \u201cTarzan of the Apes,\u201d in 1912.<\/p>\n<p>Best known for his books and stories featuring Tarzan, Burroughs wrote more than 70 books, including historical fiction and several popular series of science fiction tales.\u00a0 The Edgar Rice Burroughs Forever Stamp was dedicated at the Tarzana Community and Cultural Center in Tarzana, CA.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The stamp can be purchased at Post Offices nationwide, online at <a href=\"http:\/\/usps.com\/shop\"><em>usps.com\/store<\/em><\/a> and by phone at 800-STAMP-24 (800-782-6724).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <em>USS Constitution&#8211;<\/em>the world\u2019s oldest commissioned warship still afloat\u2014set sail once again in the form of Forever stamps to commemorate the War of 1812 bicentennial.\u00a0 The colorful first-day-of-issue ceremony took place next to \u201cOld Ironsides\u201d in Boston\u2019s Charleston Navy Yard. The stamp depicts the oldest known painting of the <em>USS Constitution<\/em>\u2014a circa 1803 painting by Michele Felice Corne that is exhibited in the <em>USS Constitution<\/em> Museum.<\/p>\n<p>The day after the ceremony, the ship set sail for the first time since 1997 to commemorate its victory over the British ship <em>HMS Guerriere<\/em> during the War of 1812.<\/p>\n<p><em>USS Constitution<\/em> stamps can be purchased at Post Offices, online at <a href=\"http:\/\/usps.com\/shop\"><em>usps.com\/store<\/em><\/a> and by phone at 800-STAMP-24 (800-782-6724).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Debra J.
