About 120 REC members listened attentively to candidate messages and voted in a straw poll. Traditionally, the REC then sends out a mailer informing Lee County<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10998\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10998\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Byron-Donalds.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-10998\" title=\"Byron Donalds\" src=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Byron-Donalds-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10998\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Byron Donalds<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Republican voters of the results. However, this time REC Chairman Gary Lee has indicated that the REC may not send any mailer. Why? Is it because the \u201cfavorite\u201d was beaten in the Congressional District 19 contest?<\/p>\n<p>In the actual REC straw poll, Byron Donalds surprisingly won narrowly over Gary Aubuchon, with Chauncey Goss finishing third. Few expected Donalds, from Collier County, to win. But then Donalds has been victorious in other straw polls throughout Congressional District 19.<\/p>\n<p>But two weeks following the REC meeting a mail piece from the REC without Byron Donalds photograph showed up in my mail box&#8230;&#8230;..<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10984\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10984\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/REC-Mailer-e1343403673982.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10984\" title=\"REC Mailer\" src=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/REC-Mailer-e1343403673982.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"262\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10984\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Actual scanned copy of mail piece from the REC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So is this bad politics or is there just bad blood between REC Chairman Gary Lee and others. But these kinds of shenanigans are why Americans distrust politics in general. It\u2019s simply wrong and must be corrected.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s one of the reason why Lehigh Acres First is being form. Lehigh Acres First is a non-partisan group of Lehigh Acres citizens that has been established to find and assist those\u00a0politicians\u00a0who are willing to pledge their support to the residents of our Lehigh Acres community. Founding Chairperson Tonda Soisson-Lawson, said, \u201cLehigh Acres First shall seek out qualified candidates to run for public office. We will meet with them and question them. \u00a0And may grant them our\u00a0organizational\u00a0or individual financial and endorsement support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To become a member of the\u00a0originating\u00a0committee of 100, you must complete a short membership form and donate $100 to Lehigh Acres First.
