<\/a>Albert Einstein\u2019s definition of insanity is \u201cdoing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.\u201d \u00a0I believe as residents of Lehigh Acres we must stop the insanity.<\/p>\n
In just a few months we will most likely have the most important election in the history of Lehigh Acres.\u00a0 I know that many of us dread the election season, however, it is a reality and we must face it.\u00a0 As registered voters, we sometimes accept the status quo, when the truth of the matter is, we create the status quo.<\/p>\n
I suggest that in the next few months, we become responsible and informed voters.\u00a0 Lehigh Acres has over 39,000 registered voters and we can make the necessary changes that will be beneficial for our community.\u00a0 Just having 39,000 registered voters is not the answer.\u00a0 The answer to become informed about the candidates that are running for elective office and then vote.<\/p>\n
During this time, I know from experience what most of us do.\u00a0 It is one of two things.\u00a0 Either we vote by name recognition, for those individuals that have been in office for many years and get their names in the local papers. The other thing is even worse. We decide that because we don\u2019t study the issues or the people that are running for office, we simply choose not to vote in that race.Just because someone has held a certain elected office for several years, doesn\u2019t mean they are the right person for the future of our community. Sometimes those who hold on to a position for many years become comfortable and possessive.\u00a0 They become powerful without accountability.<\/p>\n
Those in elected positions are only held accountable on Election Day.\u00a0 Many don\u2019t want the public to know their positions on the issues and their support for the future of our community. They hope we accept what they want us to hear.\u00a0 As you know, sometimes we can\u2019t trust the candidates to be completely honest about themselves or, those running against them.\u00a0 Speeches and advertisements are largely half truths or tearing down their opponents by building themselves up.<\/p>\n
So how can we become more informed in these next few months?\u00a0 Let me suggest to you that there is a non-partisan group of Lehigh Acres residents called \u201cLehigh Acres First.\u201d This group of individuals was formed to seek out qualified candidates to run for public office, that are willing to pledge their support to the citizens of our community, and who have the best interest of those who call Lehigh Acres home.<\/p>\n
Whatever we do we must become informed voters, and make sure that this election season doesn\u2019t reflect the past.\u00a0 I for one am tired of the insanity!!
