Mitchell \u2013 United States Postal Service<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>Special to the Gazette<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pre-order statistics for Forever stamps honoring four of Major League Baseball\u2019s iconic legends indicate that Boston Red Sox slugger Ted Williams leads in popularity.<\/p>\n<p>He is followed by New York Yankee Joe DiMaggio, Pittsburgh Pirate Willie Stargell, and Cleveland Indian Larry Doby.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s still early in the season, and Ted Williams has gotten off to a fast start.\u00a0 As the summer unfolds, it will be like a tight pennant race as we see who buys the most individual player sheets.<\/p>\n<p>The Postal Service has issued sheets of 20 stamps honoring each player individually.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The stamp sheets are being sold in limited quantities beginning July 21 at select Post Offices inBoston,MA;Cleveland,OH; Cooperstown andNew York,NY; andPittsburgh,PA.To obtain the stamp sheets and related philatelic products, customers are encouraged to order them between now and Aug. 31.<\/p>\n<p>Customers may order the stamps and collectible products by visiting <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usps.com\/play-ball\">usps.com\/play-ball<\/a><\/em> or calling 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Debra J.
