The full board of the Lee County Conservation 202/20 Committee voted 14 to 1 to approve the Lehigh Spring site for secondary review which means the county will do their diligence into looking at all aspects of the property for purchase it in the 20/20 program.
There were over 40 Lehigh Acres Citizens present at the meeting and of the following spoke in favor of the spring:
Edd Weiner, “This is a jewel and could be a spot light for tourism in Lehigh Acres”
Ruth Anglicks, “It’s more than just baseball”
Cathy Kruse, “I’m a teacher and this is true Florida in my neighborhood.”
The committee was worried about maintenance and easement issues on the property, but county staff proposed that these can be controlled and worked on in the secondary review.
This is a very good thing, both for the county ,but most of all for Lehigh. It will help with tourism and could acually provide a few needed jobs. Think of all the history that will be found of the areas past, plus after a clean up and the exploration is done what a beutiful park and history museum it could become. Also it could become a dive site for open waterdivers and cave divers, possibley even a training site for diving bringing in needed money to the area..
