Shots Fired
At Family Car

A Lehigh Acres mother and her two children said they were startled by gunfire as the family drove home Wednesday night. A bullet hit the car right next to where a 16-year-old girl was riding in the backseat.

That bullet is still lodged in the door of the Malivert family car.

“Something in the door stopped the bullet. It stayed inside,” said mom, Marie Malivert.

It hit only inches away from where 16-year-old Lovely Malivert was sitting in the backseat as she, her mom and 17 year-old brother, Etienne, drove home from the store.

The Maliverts were heading down 21st Street West Lehigh Acres and as the family turned the corner, they heard a loud boom.

They originally thought it was a rock, but then they got home and saw the bullet hole, they realized it was something much worse.

“After that, I got my phone and called 911 to call the police,” said Marie.

She said after the boom, she saw two people run toward a nearby house. Deputies searched the area, but didn’t find the shooters.

Luckily, the bullet didn’t pierce through the inner section of the door and the family is calling it a miracle.

“I’m so lucky. I’ve got my son and my daughter with me and I say, ‘God, thank you.’ My son is OK and my daughter is OK,” Marie said.
