With unanimous support from the Lehigh Acres Community Planning Panel, approval was reached Wednesday night for a project that will remodel and enhance the Publix Plaza on Homestead Road.
According to county documents , the panel does not have authority to approve or disapprove any projects, but they can give their opinion as community residents.
During this remodel, the Publix will be closed from January through October of 2013.
Greg Stuart, a local urban planner, said, “They are planning to update landscaping, repave the parking lot and choose a new clean, contemporary look. It’s similar to newer models such as the Publix Plaza on State Road 82.”
Jim Field, president of Investors Development Services based in Naples, which co-owns the property said that the plaza will receive a new look based off of the large grocery store which will eincrease in size from 41,000 to 46,000 square feet,
According to Field, the goal is to reopen in time for Thanksgiving of 2013. The only storefront expected to close for that length of time is Publix. The rest of the plaza will receive only a new façade to match the new plaza look.
This is great that there is some forward motion in beautifing Lehigh. What are the plans for the employs while this is going on?
Publix employees will be transfered to others locations for the ten months. The other business in the plaza will remain open. Only will Publix be closed.
