20/20 Conservancy – Urgent

Dear Editor:

Ruth Anglickis

As you may already know, a decision to fund 20/20 was not concluded at yesterday’s BOCC meeting.

Therefore, a decision to purchase “any properties” was also not made.  20/20 or the County has never purchased property in Lehigh Acres, other than Hickey’s Creek.  The County Commissioners must find a way to purchase this property.  We tell our children to do the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason.  This is the right thing, the right time and the right reason for the County to go forward with the purchase of Leeland Lake.

Ken O’Leary is making another application to the County to purchase Leeland Lake 19.95 acres.  He has been denied twice.  Let’s not allow a third time.

On May 12, 2012 there will be another Lehigh Plan workshop from 9:30AM-11:30AM at the East County Library.  The plan and Leeland Lake will be discussed. Be sure to attend and bring friends.

After this meeting, there is a need to solicit a network of people from Lehigh Acres as well as all over the County to write letters of support to purchase Leeland Lake.  Without letters of support, the County may never purchase this property that has great archeological value.  Please start making a list of constituents you can contact to help support our cause to see this property purchased by the County, after May 12.  All schools need to get involved in this support as it has huge educational impact.

I will appreciate your sending me names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mails of people you plan to contact so we can keep the list and give the people on this list an update.  Our list should include leadership committees from Fort Myers (East Fort Myers, North Fort Myers, South Fort Myers, Estero, Sanibel, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs as well as Clubs, Organizations, Homeowner Associations and more.

Letters of support should be sent to the Board of County Commissioners, 2115 Second Street, Fort Myers, FL. 33901.  They can be sent to Ray Judah, Frank Mann, Tammy Hall, Brian Bigelow and John Manning .
