
Last week the Florida Foundation for Future Scientists hosted the 57th Annual State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida. This event is the largest academic competition in Florida and included nearly 900 students from across the state displaying their own independent research projects.
Among the 29 finalists presenting 26 projects was Riverdale student Travis Edwards who garnered a fourth-place finish as a finalist’ Edwards advanced to state competition upon qualifying during the local Thomas Alva Edison Science and Engineering Fair.
Edwards won a full academic scholarship to Florida Gulf Coast University (along with other awards.) At the State Fair, eight District students participated with five earning various awards.
“We’re very proud of our students’ performance at the State Science Fair,” said Dr. Joseph Burke, Superintendent of Schools. “There’s a renewed focus on science subject matter and we want to do everything we can to encourage students’ love of science.”
