According to Lehigh Acres Fire officials , the LAFD has had three suspicious brush fire again today.
As of April 4, 44 percent of the county’s 32 reported brush fires were said intentionally set – up from 19 percent during that time period last year, and up 21 percent from 2010.
“It’s frustrating because these are fires that don’t need to happen,” said Victor Hill, wildfire mitigation specialist with the Caloosahatchee Forestry Center.
It’s much easier to prevent a fire than to control it once it starts – but firefighters and the forestry center can do that only if neighbors keep an eye on one another.
“If you see a suspicious vehicle in your neighborhood that’s parked by the side of the road, and someone’s kind of loitering around it, keep an eye on what they’re doing,” Hill said.
