A 9-year-old child was struck and seriously injured by a car Wednesday morning, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said a red Pontiac Grand Am was traveling eastbound on Eighth Street Southwest between Brian Avenue and Bruce Avenue shortly before 8:30 a.m., when the child walked into the path of the car.
The child was reportedly walking to a bus stop nearby.
The child was taken by medical helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital.
The crash is under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
