Did you know that Florida will soon became the second state to officially ban fluoride from drinking water? Utah became the first state to pass such a law, but it appears Florida will soon be ranked as the second.
Actually, the Florida legislature just passed a bill outlawing fluoride in our drinking water and that bill is on the way to Governor Ron DeSantis for his signature to make it official across the state.
The bill had strong support from Republican lawmakers and the administration of Governor Ron DeSantis. The bill had been approved by the Florida House with an 88-27 vote. Although some public health advocates and dentists advocated for keeping fluoride in our water as they stated that fluoride is a safe and effective way to prevent cavities, but opponents cited potential risks to children’s intellectual development.
It appears other states with Republican majority legislatures will also follow suit by passing measures to cut fluoride out of their water as well. As usual, Florida appears to be on the forefront of many Republican ideological changes sweeping our nation.
As of the status of the bill and its signature into law by DeSantis, it is currently awaiting his signature which could occur as early as this week.
