David Garrett was arrested after robbing a Walgreens Pharmacy on Homestead Road of prescription painkillers then getting sick from the drugs, according the sheriff’s office.
According to deputies, 35-year-old Garrett passed a note to the pharmacist demanding Dilaudid, writing he would “shoot up the pharmacy” if he didn’t get the pills.
The employee gave him about a half-dozen bottles of the medication, worth more than $800.
An arrest report says Garrett put the pills in his pocket and left the property on his bike.
According to the report, the next morning, deputies and Lehigh Acres Fire Rescue were called to a home on 1716 Rush Avenue, where a woman told them her boyfriend passed out and was foaming at the mouth.
Investigators found bottles of pills, a syringe, and Garrett on the couch. The report says a deputy noticed the bottles had the same markings pharmacies use to keep track of inventory.
Garrett was arrested after a comparison of the barcodes on the bottles matched the ones reported stolen from the store.
Garrett is currently being held in the Lee County jail on $15,000 bond.
