Did you know that a pest-control company has released its list of the 50 most rodent-infested cities in the U.S., and seven Florida cities managed to find a place on it?
According the company, Terminix, toping America’s number one spot for rodents is [not shockingly] New York City, followed by number 2, San Fransico-Oakland area, and third-Los Angeles.
What may be surprising however for many Floridians, within our state, Tampa-St. Petersburg placed highest ranked at number 17. The Orlando-Melbourne metro area came in at number eighteen.
Not much further behind and ranked at number 22, is the Miami and Fort Lauderdale area. Nearby West Palm Beach-Fort Pierce area found itself at number 42.
The next ranked Florida area is Pensacola which was tied with Mobile, Alabama ranked number forty-four.
Fort Myers found itself ranked at 48th and Jacksonville at number 50.
Terminix suggested the following to help keep rodents such as mice and rats from invading your home:
- Seal possible entry points, such as cracks and openings near doors, windows and foundations.
- Keep living spaces clean and remove crumbs.
- Regularly dispose of garbage in tightly sealed bins.
- Organize cluttered storage areas to limit possible nesting sites.
