Did you Know

Did you know that the Florida Legislature will meet in special session during the month of December?

After Hurricane Ian, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that he and Florida legislature leaders signed an agreement to hold a special session by the end of 2022 regarding several issues.

One area the legislature will attack is the state’s faulting insurance industry. For a number of years, insurance companies have decided to pull out of Florida completely, or have folded under the weight of home insurance repair payments due to Hurricanes Irma and Ian. DeSantis has floated the idea that the state has its own statewide insurance agency to assist homeowners who have no access to home insurance.

Florida Senate President Kathleen Passidomo stated during a recent press conference regarding the upcoming special session, “Next month, the Florida Legislature will convene in a special session to address the challenges still facing our state’s insurance market and ensure residents whose homes are uninhabitable get a break on property taxes. Hurricane recovery is just one of many issues we must tackle in the weeks and months ahead.”
