As Chair of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, Rep. Demings leads efforts to oversee FEMA’s work in partnership with House Homeland Security Committee Chair Bennie Thompson (MS-02).

Rep. Demings called for a Major Disaster Declaration for Florida to unlock additional federal aid, for 100% cost-sharing by FEMA to cover disaster expenses for Florida communities, and for FEMA Individual Assistance to be made available to Floridians in all 67 Florida counties.
Rep. Demings also called for a special session of the Florida Legislature in response to Hurricane Ian and the growing crisis in the state’s property insurance market. She also cosponsored the FAITH Act, legislation to shore up the broken property insurance market from the federal level.
Rep. Demings voted for a continuing resolution including $21 billion for disaster recovery: $18.8 billion for the Disaster Relief Fund, and $2 billion for Community Development Block Grants – Disaster Relief (CDBG-DR).
Rep. Demings strongly supported the bipartisan infrastructure bill, including $50 billion for storm resilience and weatherization, including flood mitigation.
Rep. Demings cosponsored bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and ensure the stability and affordability of our nation’s flood insurance program.
