Lee County Sheriff’s Office detectives and crime scene units had part of Clayton Avenue south of East 14th Street closed for much of the evening and going into early Friday morning.

The Bass family lives adjacent to the crime scene. They said that deputies swarmed the area around 5 p.m.
“We came home this afternoon, pulled into the driveway, pulled into the garage, getting product out of the trunk, and all of a sudden the police just showed up and down the street,” said Robert Bass. “They had sirens, there were lights, there were paramedics, there was the firetruck.”
He spoke with detectives, who told him this stemmed from a domestic situation and that at least one person was in custody.
“It just seemed like there was more going on than what we saw,” he said. “My wife was like ‘Let’s get out of here. It’s time to go home.’”
