Lehigh Acres could be getting a new congressman

People living in big chunks of Lehigh Acres could soon get a new congressman.

If you live in North Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, the river district of Fort Myers along Dunbar and Lehigh Acres, state lawmakers are drawing new congressional boundary lines.

The red line on the map above notes the current boundaries.

The proposed map recently released shows everything in orange would go to Byron Donalds in District 19.  Everything in orange would be handed over to Republican Greg Steube in the 17th District.

However, most voters we spoke with in Steube’s proposed new area have never heard of it.  Randy Carry lives in North Fort Myers.

“I’m not aware of the name. I’m in touch with local politics and never heard the name. I’ve never even seen his face,” Carry said.

That was the same reaction Kathleen Turado of North Fort Myers had when she saw Steube’s picture.

Steube would gain a majority of working class low to middle-income voters.  So far he has no opposition in next year’s election.

Those who want to weigh in can contact their local state representative.
