Did you know that Ocean Breeze Elementary School teachers recently taped a mask on a student’s face?

Teachers at Indian Harbour Beach, Florida school, forced Sofia Steel to wear a mask although Governor Ron DeSantis outlawed such policies. Sofia suffers from Down Syndrome and an enlarged tongue.
One day, Sofia showed up after school at her home with a mask taped to her face. According to Sofia’s father Jeffrey Steel, the mask was “wet from her saliva.”
On October 12, Mr. Steel apparently went to the school to discuss the matter. According to Steel, school officials admitted that Sofia had been forced to wear a mask for six weeks. Steel and his wife had previously notified the school that they were seeing “big behavior changes in Sofia at home.”
According to the Brevard County School Board and the teachers who were questioned regarding the taping of the mask to Sofia Steel’s face, “Brevard County Florida school employees used nylon rope to tie a mask onto a nonverbal down syndrome student for six weeks. One day they forgot to remove it and sent her home, which is how the dad found out.”
In September, Governor DeSantis warned Brevard schools that they could face fines if they continued to impose mask mandates on students. The Brevard County School Board decided to ignore the governor’s order and furthered their mask mandate by taping a mask on 7-year-old Sofia.
The Steel family has hired an attorney to assess the issue for possible litigation against the Brevard County School Board, teachers and others.
