Tampa Bay under a Hurricane Watch
Elsa has defied the odds and has emerged into the Florida Straits as a relatively strong tropical storm. Elsa is moving north-northwest at 10 mph, with maximum sustained winds at 60 mph. Forecast models have shifted slightly eastward, increasing the likelihood of Elsa hugging the west coast of central Florida.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center of circulation. Hurricane watches are in effect for Pinellas County to Lafayette County (Tampa Bay North). Elsa will strengthen as expected and could become a minimal hurricane before making landfall along the Big Bend tomorrow morning.
Please consult the National Hurricane Weather Center and your local weather office for the best information for where you are.
