FGCU Indefinitely Suspends Intercollegiate Athletics Competitions

FGCU has indefinitely suspended all athletics competition, effective immediately, in response to COVID-19 (coronavirus). This includes the 2020 ASUN Women’s Basketball Championship Game that was slated to be held at Alico Arena on Sunday, March 15.

The announcement is in conjunction with the ASUN Conference which will be suspending all sports competitions through at least April 5.

FGCU Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh.

“We recognize how disappointing this is for our student-athletes and coaches, particularly our women’s basketball team as well as junior Petra Halmai (Dombovar, Hungary) from our women’s swim team who both were preparing for NCAA postseason events,” said FGCU Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh. “Even with that disappointment, we have to recognize the measures as being in the best interest of our student-athletes’ health along with our fans and all of those who are supporting the events. We will continue to monitor the suspension of competition in conjunction with our University leadership, conference leadership and health professionals over the coming weeks.”

FGCU Athletics will share any further information, when available, through www.FGCUAthletics.com and via our main Twitter (@FGCUEagles) and Facebook (@FGCUAthletics) channels.
