Lehigh Lehigh students doing the right things

Logan Kletschka of Lehigh Acres, is a fourth grade student at The Alva School.
The Alva School, Exceptional Student Education teacher Anita McCullers wrote “I feel Logan should be honored by the ‘Do The Right Thing’ program for genuine compassion and kindness he showed toward his elderly, handicapped neighbor. That neighbor is my mother. It warmed my heart and gave me comfort when she shared this story about Logan. She was in her motorized wheelchair at the side of the road retrieving the giant garbage can, as Logan was riding his bike down the street. She and Logan had never met before, but Logan stopped and offered to help her. She was appreciative and took him up on his offer to help. He delivered the can to the top of the driveway, and then he told my mother “to have a nice day.” She replied, ‘I will now!’ Logan’s kind and thoughtful nature meant a lot to my mother and to me.”
Rhiyanna Johnson of Lehigh Acres is a second grade student at Sunshine Elementary School. Sunshine Elementary School, second grade teacher Megan Holt wrote, “Rhiyanna has consistently shown leadership qualities in class. She keeps her small group on track when working independently without the teacher. She assists struggling readers in a way that guides them to an answer and reteaches strategies to students when she helps them with their work.”
Skylar Lewis of Lehigh Acres is a second grade student at Sunshine Elementary School. Sunshine Elementary School, second grade teacher Megan Holt wrote “Skylar has repeatedly assisted one of the struggling readers in our class. She does not read to him however. She listens and helps him decode the text. She even reminds him of phonics patterns when he is really stuck. She has shared with me, that now, she wants to be a teacher when she grows up.”
Darius Dorisca of Lehigh Acres is a Kindergarten student at Manatee Elementary School. Manatee Elementary School, kindergarten teacher Tiffany Coffman wrote that “during the Turkey Trot Race where children race to earn a turkey, Darius saw a student fall down on the race course. Darius, without any hesitation, stopped to help him. He did not even think about the reality that his chances of winning a turkey were slipping away. His single-minded focus was on helping a hurt student. Afterwards he told me ‘you don’t just leave a friend laying there hurt.’ Darius’s actions reflect a very great character for a young child.”
Dwayne Chairez Reyez of Lehigh Acres is a second grade student at Manatee Elementary School. Manatee Elementary School, second grade teacher Shajarian Stevens wrote “Dwayne saw a few students damaging school property. He immediately alerted school staff members of this situation and they were able to take appropriate steps to alleviate the situation. Dwayne’s actions reflected courage, integrity and a deep love of his school.”
The following three students will be honored together: Jefferey Pierre, Olivia Guertin and Claudy Joseph reside in Lehigh Acres. They are all juniors at Lehigh Senior High School. Lehigh Senior High School, teacher Kassandra Pardo wrote “Jefferey Pierre, Olivia Guertin and Claudy Joseph were quick to jump in and try to separate a physical altercation that occurred in the classroom after a stranger walked into a class and physically attacked another student. They put themselves at risk for injury in order to protect a classmate. They did this without any hesitation or even thinking twice. Their actions reflect courage and bravery.”
Jeremiah Broomfield of Lehigh Acres is a freshman at East Lee County High School. Sabrina Kopfhamer wrote “Jeremiah saved the life of my 61-year-old mother. She had fallen down in her home. She had no pulse, was not breathing nor was she responding to Jeremiah when he spoke to her. Jeremiah had just learned how to do CPR in his 9th grade health class in school and knew to call 911 and start CPR until paramedics and first responders arrived at the scene. The first responders arrived and were able to jump in and have my mother transported to Lehigh Regional Hospital. The paramedics indicated to family that if Jeremiah would have not been there and reacted immediately, my mother would have not survived. Jeremiah is a hero and now he can definitely say he has made a difference and saved a life.”
