Five people are arrested after illegally harvesting Saw Palmetto Berries in Lehigh Acres.
LCSO Deputies say the five were seen picking berries near 21st SW and Ruth Avenue and 72nd Street West and Flora Avenue.
The Saw Palmetto Berries are used in some medicines and can be sold for about $1.35 per pound according to a recent price in Immokalee.
However, last year the State of Florida but the Saw Palmetto Berries on the list of commercially exploited plants in the state.
Now people need a special permit in order to harvest the berries.
