Lee County considers adding safety measures to Joel Blvd

With fast drivers and a lack of traffic lights, people who live along Joel Blvd. in Lehigh Acres said the road is dangerous and something needs to be done.

Lee County Commissioner Frank Mann (Dist 5-R) stated at the last Lehigh Acres Community Council meeting that the plan called the “road diet” going from 4 lanes to 3 lanes) was off the LEE DOT playbook and that new traffic lights would be going in.

But according to Betsy Clayton Lee County Government Communications Director by email stated, the plan for the road diet (going from 4 lanes to 3 lanes) is being re-evaluated by Lee County DOT.

Traffic signals are one of the myriad options being assessed by staff as well as things like crosswalks, reduced speed limits, etc.

The timeframe and cost are yet to be determined.
