Fortunate Ferals of Lehigh Acres announced it has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Petco Foundation to support its Trap, Neuter, and Return (TNR) program.

The Petco Foundation investment will help to increase the number of TNR surgeries for feral and free roaming cats by utilizing low-cost spay/neuter clinics in Lee County. This will help curb the overpopulation problem of feral cats and have fewer animals living on the street and being dropped off to local shelters.
“The Petco Foundation’s grant is exciting news for us, as it will enable us to access low-cost clinics so that approximately 70 extra cats can be spayed and neutered from already targeted areas,” said Glenda Sparnroft, president of Fortunate Ferals.
Fortunate Ferals is a nonprofit organization who has made an impact on the number of free roaming cats thru its TNR program for feral cat colonies in Lee County. Since 2012, Fortunate Ferals has helped improve the lives of countless feral and free roaming cats by providing TNR projects for several hundred colonies as well as providing veterinarian care to numerous sick and injured cats. Fortunate Ferals also hosts a monthly Trap, Neuter and Return workshop for caretakers and individuals who want to learn more about ways to get involved in TNR in the community.

About Fortunate Ferals
Fortunate Ferals is a dedicated group of volunteers whose main goal is to provide TNR assistance, education, information and guidance to responsible caretakers of feral and free roaming cats. Because our main focus is on all aspects of TNR, we are not a Rescue, but do assist caretakers with finding homes for friendly strays and adoptable kittens as well as offering ongoing care and support for existing colonies. Fortunate Ferals was formed to help fulfill a need in the community and we stay in existence because the community recognizes that need. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and can only survive on the generosity of public donations or awarded grants.
About the Petco Foundation
At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life. Since 1999, we’ve invested more than $250 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to make that happen. With our more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and medical care programs, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and numerous other lifesaving initiatives. Through our Think Adoption First program, we partner with Petco stores and animal welfare organizations across the country to increase pet adoptions. So far, we’ve helped more than six million pets find their new loving families, and we’re just getting started. Visit petcofoundation.org to learn more about how you can get involved.
