Slide the City, an event that left thousands of people high and dry, says it’s coming back to Lee County.
Slide the City pre-sold tickets at $35 to 55 per ticket to allow people to ride the Edison Bridge, but a few weeks before the September event the company still didn’t have a permit.
Now the company says they will host an event in downtown Fort Myers before the New Year, but the event is still illegal.
The Department of Transportation said the group is still at square one with their permit despite what they may have the public believe. And previous purchasers are hesitant about the new event.
The event’s Facebook page shows an October 30th date, but city leaders said Slide the City isn’t even close. In fact, nothing has changed since the group was denied the Veterans Park site and was sent back to the drawing board.
“There are people still buying tickets to this thing,” said City Manager Saeed Kazemi. “It’s ridiculous.”
Kazemi said he’s surprised to see the date, let alone tickets being sold. No date has been approved for the use of Edison Bridge and won’t without a permit.
Slide the City did not return calls for comment.
