Florida SouthWestern State College Athletics unveiled the unique design for the playing floor in Suncoast Credit Union Arena, the future home for FSW men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams.
Designed by FSW Sports Information Director Michael Hill, the Buccaneers’ court design, outlined in purple, features the school’s primary Buc head logo and nickname “Bucs” at center court with “Florida SouthWestern” along both baselines. The court also features the text “We Are FSW” located on the sideline opposite of the team benches.
The most recognizable feature of the new court will be four palm trees that nearly stretch sideline to sideline. The palm trees, each in a dark stain, are a nod to the home of the FSW Lee campus and Suncoast Credit Union Arena, Fort Myers, and its nickname, ‘City of Palms’.
“We are so excited about the grand opening of Suncoast Credit Union Arena and many outstanding events and memories to come,” said FSW Director of Athletics Carl McAloose. “I believe with the people, climate and beautiful surroundings we are all fortunate to be living in paradise and our court design reflects that. We live in the ‘City of Palms’ so we feel that the palm trees are appropriate and unique to SWFL.”
“This court along with brand new Suncoast Credit Union Arena are arguably our biggest billboards in terms of free exposure, so we felt that we had to continue to ignite the interest of our fans, alumni and recruits with a special design,” said Hill. “I think it’s a very unique floor and a continuation of all the exciting things that are happening at Florida SouthWestern State College and in FSW athletics.”
Fans will get their first look at the new court when the FSW men’s and women’s basketball teams tip off their 2016-17 home schedule with a doubleheader at Suncoast Credit Union Arena on Tuesday, November 29. The women will start things off with a 6 p.m. matchup against Hillsborough CC, followed by the men’s contest against Broward College at 8 p.m.
